Q. What is the difference between LED ( light emitting diode) and halogen bulb?
A. Efficient LEDs produce light in the visible spectrum, there are no U.V. rays or infra-red radiation emitted from the light beams, which means they run much cooler than halogen. LEDs are solid state bulbs, they do not contain toxic gases, have no fragile glass shells, or delicate filaments like halogen bulbs.
Q. How long do LEDs last compared to halogen bulbs?
A. LEDs' life span can be up to about 50,000 hours, compared to halogen's 1,000 – 4,000 hours. Unlike halogen bulbs LEDs do not "burn out or blow", after time LEDs gradually lose their intensity.
Q. Are LEDs cheaper to run than halogen?
A. The control system used in Varimode Lighting's pool lights uses a maximum of 6.6 Watts with all 72 LEDs on constantly, most halogen pool lights are equipped with 100 Watt bulbs, which means halogen uses 15 times as much power.
Q. Why use Varimode lighting LED pool lights?
A. Varimode pool lights have a built in electronic driver system, this alleviates the need to run more than 2 wires to the light and the need for a costly controller box.
Q. Can I fit Varimode lights to an above ground pool?
A. Yes, Varimode makes a wide range of lights for all types of pools, which include concrete, fibreglass, liner and above-ground pools. Our niches are sealable to prevent water loss.
Q: What is the power supply for the lights?
A: With the exception of the
LED strip light, all lights must be powered
from a 12 Volt AC wire-wound safety isolating
transformer, with an approval number of AS/NZ61558
or equivalent. Electronic (switch mode or
chopper supply) transformers must NOT be used.
Q: How can I tell if I have the correct transformer?
A: Wire-wound transformers are normally heavy and contain the words "Safety Isolating Transformer". Electronic transformers are normally small and light-weight. If you have doubts, ask an expert.
